Parliament Recalled To Swear In Prof. Oquaye As Acting President

Parliament of Ghana will be summoned at 2:30 PM on Sunday, January 21,2018 to swear in Professor Mike Oquaye as acting president in accordance with Article 60 (11) and (12) of the 1992 constitution.

This was made known in a statement signed by First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Hon. Joseph Osei-Wusu.

The Statement said “In exercise of the power conferred on the Speaker by Order 42 (3) of the Standing Orders of Parliament of Ghana, I, Honourable Joseph Osei-Wusu First Deputy Speaker of Parliament, pursuant to Order 13(2) do hereby summon Parliament to sit on Sunday , 21st January, 2018 at half past two O’clock in the afternoon at Parliament House, Accra for the swearing in of the Right Honourable Speaker as Acting president of the Republic in accordance with Article 60 (11) and (12) of the 1992 constitution.”

In the absence of the the President and his vice, the constitution mandates the Speaker  of parliament to be sworn in and act as a president.

The President, Nana Akufo-Addo is likely to travel tomorrow while the Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, is away in the UK for medical attention.

The director of communications at the presidency, Eugene Arhin on Saturday confirmed to journalists that Dr. Bawumia had been flown to the UK for medical attention.

The Vice President was flown last night together with his wife Samira Bawumia, after he took ill on Friday, January 19,2018. The confirmation comes after earlier rumours went rife that he had been flown outside the country.

Dr. Bawumia’s health status has not been revealed yet, but Mr. Arhin who spoke on Accra-based Joy FM Saturday morning assured the presidency will keep on updating Ghanaians on the state of the Vice President.
