Mentorship

It is with no doubt that, the most pressing and greatest need of young people today is direction and guidance (I simply call it mentorship). Present day youths need adults–both men and women–of integrity who would stir up our potentials and lovingly inspire us to greater heights.

Do you have a mentor? If YES! who is a mentor? And what is your reason for choosing  such a person. Ponder over it before you continue reading. If NO! Have you thought of having one?– remember not everyone qualifies to be a mentor.

A MENTOR is someone who gives another person help and advice over a period of time, especially help and advice related to their career .(I’m much concern about the professional mentorship). Stephen Scott, a man with great passion about mentorship said ” I’ve always believed that failures are the second greatest teachers in life , mentors are the first ”

Apostle Paul entreats us to imitate him just as he also imitates Jesus Christ(1 Cor.11:1). You may think you are brilliant and have the best of ideas. You may also say, You need no one to emulate. NO! No matter how good you are, you still need someone “positive”(MENTOR) to bring out the best in me.–Even Apostle Paul of all people had Jesus as his mentor.

I quite remember one sunny day when Conrad Kakraba, a GTV newscaster   asked” Bright who do you want to meet” Amazingly, before he ended his question I had already answered him. The only name I mentioned was Sir Sam Jonah. A young man with passion for finances and high desire for leadership, such a man is the best image of man I look up to– though am yet to meet him. Your mentor need to be a man with integrity and one who has achieved something great you are dreaming about(it can be a career, job or passion).

Never say your friend is your mentor, simply because he or she assist you in certain circumstances or approves everything you do. You got it wrong! Dr. Yaw Perbi,in his book Youth Power aptly puts it,” your friends may challenge you up to your perceived elastic limit but a mentor stretches you to your true elastic limit”. I’m not saying your mentor should basically be an older person rather he or she should be an experienced person you are ready to learn from.

In all, am challenging you to open your eyes and minds  and begin your search for a God–fearing and experienced person as your mentor.
